Linking climate change adaptation and international development

A recently released Millennium Development Goals Fund (MDG-F) report, Seeds of Knowledge: Contributing to Climate Change Solutions, outlines lessons learned from the diversity of national and local community adaptation projects. Fifty-three lessons were collected from a wide range of MDG-F projects from the 17 UN Joint Programmes under the Environment and Climate Change section. These lessons were analyzed for their context, evidence of effects and replicability for other jurisdictions. Twelve themes were raised ranging from capacity-building, partnerships, energy, water, environmental mainstreaming and governance, and gender to risk management, project cycles and exit strategies. The detailed case studies provide interesting linkages between climate change adaptation, policy, partnerships and sustainability. The report provides compelling insights and lessons between climate change adaptation and development research and practice at different scales that can be used to guide future adaptation work.
