In an earlier blog, we looked at how bridges could be used to generate solar energy using algae. Bridges, even when in use, create a lot of urban dead space, and more so when they become decommissioned. Usually, they sit for years until they are demolished, which accomplishes nothing but creating more waste and carbon output. This intriguing new proposal looks at how instead of replacing old infrastructure, older, already integrated bridges could house an innovative new wind power system. It’s a threefold solution, since it not only provides a green source of power generation, but simultaneously gives new life to older structures by retrofitting them and protects unspoiled locations from the disturbance of new-build power generating projects.
