The Community Energy Association has released a report on renewable energy commitments by local governments in BC. The report highlights the overwhelming interest in supporting local renewable energy projects among local governments. Renewable energy appeared as a strategic action in 100% of community energy plans in BC and 50% of local governments have immediate plans to pursue specific renewable energy projects. One third have already reported or funded a renewable energy action in their communities. According to the report, BC is second only to Ontario with regards to existing policies to support local renewables. The report identifies biomass, geo-exchange, waste heat recovery, solar hot water, and solar photovoltaics as the technologies with the most momentum, suggesting that this is where provincial funding should be directed.
