On Thursday, October 18, 2018, the MC3 2.0 Research Team led our final peer-to-peer learning exchange with community leaders to discuss our key MC3 policy outcomes. With interviewees and guests tuning in from across British Columbia with our research team, we shared our research outcomes from the first phase and the policy outcomes from the second phase, presented our co-benefits map and models as well as our decomposition analysis. We also engaged in peer discussion centered on our assessment framework, evaluating development path change.
While there were many takeaways from this event, there were two in particular that are of utmost importance given the recent release of the alarming IPCC report revealing that we have about 12 years to get our act together or face catastrophic change to the planet. The first takeaway is that we need multi-level governance to reduce our climate pollution before it is too late and meet our COP 21 commitments to hold to a 1.5-degree increase. The second is that we need to have transition strategies in place so Canadians can see the different pathways to a carbon neutral economy and the polarized debate now happening between the Federal and Provincial governments.
