New Video Release - Inertia

We have just released Intertia, an experimental, non-narrative animation produced as the first video in the series on climate change created for the Meeting the Climate Change Challenge (MC3) research project. The video portrays the political gridlock resulting from the debate on climate change, and shows what the challenges and potential consequences are of not being able to move past this gridlock.

Having the Climate Conversation

ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) Canada is very pleased to announce the launch of Having the Climate Conversation: Strategies for Local Governments, a resource to assist municipal staff with the task of communicating the complex issue of climate change to residents, stakeholders, elected officials, and fellow staff members.

On November 8th, Minister Kent addressed the Toronto Economic Club with a speech on Canada's progress regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation.  Minister Kent impressed upon the audience the importance of addressing this serious issue even in a tumultuous economic climate as effective climate change plans will lead to a healthier economy and society.

European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Climate Change Action

COST (intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology) has committed to a four year research effort on the social sciences aspects of climate change adaptation and mitigation, focusing on knowledge, law, policy, and theory.  The Action aims to inform intergovernmental discussions on climate change strategies and generate frameworks and guidance for humanitarian NGOs and IGOs concerned with climate change issues.  Links for the detailed description of the COST  

Chicago's Adapting to the New Weather

The NY Times released a fascinating article on the City of Chicago's climate adaptation strategy. Often, climate change strategies are discussed in the manner of reducing carbon output and subsequently abating climate change. However, the reality of the situation is that climate changes have already occurred and are expected to continue to occur.
